Carnivore Diet

The Carnivore diet is only meat, eggs, and dairy as well as animal fats (like butter). It is without a doubt the healthiest way to eat and people are realizing that more and more. Many Americans have horrible health because most have been fooled into eating the opposite of carnivore -- a high carb diet.

Carnivore diet = only meat, eggs, and dairy as well as animal fats

In both keto and carnivore diets, consider a supplement such as Hi-Lyte Keto K1000 Electrolyte Powder to be sure to get enough electrolytes (Na, Mg, Cl, K) - but this is not entirely necessary - you can instead drink broth or other electrolytes when feeling keto flu type symptoms (including headache, light/foggy-headed, fatigue). These symptoms are usually due to electrolyte deficiency/imbalance and can go away right away once electrolytes are consumed.

If concerned about nutrient deficiency from not eating plants, take a daily multivitamin (and vitamin D 2,000 units per day)

1) Eat plenty fat.

You cannot survive on just lean meat, fat helps with hormones and makes you feel full. If you have low energy on carnivore you need to eat more fats.

2) Eat plenty of salt.

In a low carb state your body loses more sodium. Salt is important for many things in the body including fluid balance. Without enough salt you will feel horrible (called keto-flu). Add as much salt as tastes good. At the start of carnivore use much more salt than you are used to using, your body will adjust over time and need less and less salt.

3) Beware of added ingredients.

Lots of carnivore snacks have a ton of additives. Beef jerky and bacon are examples of this.

4) Beware of adding spices/sauces/seasonings.

These often contain toxins that will build up in your body and make you feel sick of eating meat because your body associates the toxin with eating meat. After a week of clean carnivore, your taste-buds will adjust to not feeling like you need any extra spices/seasonings. Try to only put salt on your meat. An example is black pepper -- if you put it on all your meat, because it contains toxins it can make your body feel sick of eating meat. Another example is almonds contain a small amount of cyanide which can build up in your body over time and make you feel sick if you eat them too much. Because of this, people think they need a diet with more variety so they will not "get sick" of eating the same foods over time. But if you are consuming clean foods that do not contain toxins you will not get sick of them. There are no toxins in fatty meat.

5) Don't compare your results to others.

Not everyone will lose weight on carnivore at the same rate. Some people gain weight at first on carnivore partly because their bodies are very nutrient deficient and need more healing, so their bodies tell them to eat more food to help it heal. Some people need more healing than others. Be patient --- over time you will feel better and better and lose the weight. Steak and butter gal gained 25 pounds initially on carnivore (watch from 10m57s) because she was so nutrient deficient, but stuck with it and did end up losing all the weight over time.

6) You don't have to start off eating only beef or only 1 kind of meat.

It is perfectly fine to eat a variety of meats although beef is the healthiest and many people over time end up eating only that. Grass-fed beef is slightly better than grain fed beef.

7) Don't quit too early.

At the start you may not feel amazing because your body is making a lot of changes and it is detoxifying.

8) Remember that this is the ONLY way to eat that will give you the body (and health) of your dreams without feeling hungry.

But if you are constantly eating all day for entertainment it will stall your weight loss. If you are hungry you can eat a big meal until you are comfortably stuffed. If that is all you do then the weight will come off. But if you eat just out of habit or boredom when you are not hungry that can stall your weight loss.

9) Beware of taking supplements.

Aside from electrolyte replacement you don't need any supplements. Meat is nature's multivitamin, so you don't really need anything else besides electrolytes.

10) Avoid eating fruit.

This will make you gain weight and can easily stop your body from running in ketosis.

Super Clean Meal Replacement Shake:

This is not strictly carnivore but is clean and super low carb

1 scoop of protein powder (I use nutricost) = 130 calories

2 to 3 Tablespoons of MCT oil (I use amazon brand) = 240 to 360 calories

1 squirt of sugar free syrup (not necessary but improves the flavor)

Put it all in a blender with about 8 ounces of water

Store it in a mason jar for later if needed

Budget options for meat:

  • Bacon and store the grease in a metal container on the stove

  • Ground beef (watch for sales and freeze it)

  • Eggs

  • Sardines

  • Hot dogs, bologna, vienna sausages

  • Liver patte

Budget beef: Chuck, Chuck Roast, Chuck Steak, Chuck ribs, Chuck eye

The BBBE Diet is is an extreme weight loss approach.

BBBE stands for Beef, Bacon, Butter, and Eggs.

Additional Tips:

  1. *Commit to a time period such as a 30-90 day challenge --- this is very important.

  2. Eat until you are comfortably stuffed for at least the first few weeks

  3. Eat 1-3 meals per day without any snacking in between

  4. Focus on fatty meat

  5. Transition slowly over 1-3+ weeks because you're going to go through some carb withdrawal symptoms and it gives your stomach, liver, and gallbladder time to adjust to this (and yes, you can eat keto/carnivore without a gallbladder)

  6. Cook in animal fats – NOT in vegetable oils

  7. Use real salt and do not be afraid of it

  8. Clean out the pantry to avoid temptation and tell your friends and family so they don't try to shove carbs in your face

  9. Focus on electrolytes and minerals to fight cravings for junk food and keto-flu withdrawal symptoms (Keto chow is one option)

  10. Eat the highest quality meat that you can afford but don't let low funds hold you back. Don't forget about eggs, seafood, and liver. Don't worry about vitamin deficiencies – thousands of people have not consumed any added vitamins while on carnivore for over 10 years without any problem.

  11. Find a local meat department/butcher to help you get bulk meat and tell them you want the fat – you may even be able to get free fat that others do not want. They may also have organ meats for cheap.

  12. Focus on ruminant animals for your source of meat: cows, sheep, goats, deer. This is the optimal meat for most people.

  13. Eat nose to tail as much as possible

  14. Don't worry if you slip up. Just don't fall off the wagon for weeks afterwards and refocus on getting back into carnivore.

  15. Carnivore vs keto — some may do better on keto but most do better on carnivore

  16. Play around with spices/rubs/condiments — some people cannot tolerate certain things.

  17. Experiment with your protein to fat ratio

  18. Some do great with dairy but some do not. Only use full fat dairy products.

  19. Make bone broth for extra great nutrients

  20. Dr Berry liked how he felt after eating carnivore so much better than eating keto that he just kept eating carnivore.

  21. Sugar substitutes raise your insulin and turn off your fat burning, stall weight loss, and can cause carb cravings. Better to avoid them if possible.

  22. One meal a day (OMAD) OR Intermittent Fasting can help improve fat loss if your results plateau after eating 2-3 meals daily.
